The marathon course starts in the community of Molt, west of Billings, and is on paved roads the whole way. It follows Molt Road east, with a minor diversion out and back on Buffalo Trail, across the prairie featuring some impressive early morning views.
Just before the half-way mark, there is a downhill run on the "hogsback" that will take runners into Echo Canyon.
The course route takes runners through the slightly-hilly residential area of the Yellowstone Country Club before turning on to Rimrock Road. At 46th St. W. the course turns south and shortly eastward again through a residential neighborhood until it hooks up with part of the Heritage Trail System for a run through the tunnel under Shiloh Road.
After a turn north for a few blocks, the course heads west along Poly Drive and eventually to Parkhill Drive which leads to the east side of Pioneer Park where the finish line is located.
The course will have water and sport drink stations available every one to three miles starting from mile 3, 5, 6, 9, 12, 13.1, 15, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25. Portable restrooms will be at the start, 6.5, 13.1, 20 and the finish line. Restrooms are also available before boarding the bus. Our course sponsor PowerAde will the sports drink available at all water stops. We will have Hammer sport gels, candy and Vaseline along the course.
All marathon walkers must start at 5:00 AM to ensure completion by the course close time. Only those staying at the ClockTower Inn will be transported to the start at 4:30 AM. Others will have to use their own transportation. Local walkers please contact race directors for arrangements. Please note the course closes at 12:30 pm, at which time course volunteers will be released. Water tables may still be up but unattended. Reflective gear must be worn by all walkers in the 5:00 AM start.
Please join us for late packet pickup at the Hospitality Center at the ClockTower Inn, our host hotel for out of town guests. Refreshments and information will be available, as well as late packet pick up, from 5:00 pmM to 8:00 pm. Enjoy a pre-race dinner at one of Billings fabulous downtown eating establishments.
Bus times are 5:30 for the marathon, 6:45 for the Half, and 8:00 for the 10K. All busses leave from Senior High parking lot. Yes, numbers/chips will be at the bus. Park in Senior High parking lot.
Road closures: Molt and Shorey at start of Half, Rangeview and 46th, 38th and Poly by Arrowhead School, 3rd St. and Parkhill all the way down to Grand. Cars dropping off at the start in Molt must depart by 6:45, or wait 30 minutes. Please don't drop off at Shorey Road at all, you will NOT be allowed to return on Molt Road. You will be directed to head east on Shorey toward the airport. Poly and 38th will be closed from Rimrock, and 3rd St. West will be closed to Grand for the finish line. Relay teams must show their OFFICIAL RELAY CAR in the windshield to be allowed to proceed on Molt Road.
